Abstract:

Zenexo® UTP is a new generation of colored aluminium effect pigments based on an ultra-thin aluminium substrate of reproducible thickness. UTP particles are significantly thinner and provide a tight particle thickness deviation, which results in an outstanding aspect ratio when compared to other colored aluminium effect pigment generations. This leads to a better orientation behaviour of the effect pigment particles and improved light reflection, hence brilliant surfaces. The pigment is safe-to-use, easy to transport, easy to store, easy to formulate (with no solvents!) and provides outstanding coloristical features, i.e. hiding power, flop and color saturation.

About the Speakers:

Mr. Elvin Tong, who graduated from SCUT in the Year of 2010, and majored in Material Science, Master degree. After graduation he worked in Asia Pacific technology center of AkzoNobel powder coating more than 3 years – mainly responsible for powder coating R&D and application in automotive components. And then he joined the Schlenk Metallic Pigments at the end of 2014 – mainly responsible for metallic pigments' application and promotion.

Abstract:

The world is moving away from oil. Major brands have made environmental and sustainability pledges covering every aspect of their businesses from the products they make through to the packaging it arrives in. Covestro is on a mission to support these pledges by helping to eliminate fossil fuels used in coatings, packaging and print.

During this seminar we will introduce to you the 39% plant-based SP-6200 – a flexible, self-crosslinking emulsion resin, designed for multiple substrates and multiple print layers, such as primers, inks and topcoats. SP-6200 is developed for surface printing in secondary and tertiary packaging, particularly food packaging.The latest addition to the Decovery® range, is the 29% bio-based SP-6000XP barrier coating resin. It is fluor (PFAS)-free and delivers superior performance over fossil-based offerings. This is due, in the main, to its industry-unique combination of oil resistance and repulpability.With the Decovery® in Packaging portfolio, Covestro is offering brand owners, formulators and convertors a welcome opportunity to remove another layer of oil-based materials from the packaging production process.

Abstract:

Daicel group developed novel PCL for PU elastic paint, developed special expoxy componds and formulations for hard coating. PU paint based on novel PCL possesses high solid content and low viscosity, good scracth resistance, excellent yellow resistance and so on. The hard coating based on our special epoxy compounds exhibits high hardness up to 9H, high Tg, low shrinkage, and so on.

Abstract:

Epoxy toughening has always been an important topic in epoxy applications, based on which Covestro has developed a series of reactive polyurethane toughening agent (Desmocap®) to effectively increase the toughness of epoxy systems while improving the bonding strength on different substrate, and chemically cross-linking to the entire epoxy system through isocyanate reaction group, help improve the durability of toughness and reduce the negative impact to chemical resistance. These toughening agent is especially suitable for applications such as high solid or solvent-free coatings and adhesives.

About the Speaker:

Jackie Zheng, is working on PU raw material research and application development, and as main author for a number of international patents. In recent years, he has been focusing on the research and application of new blocked polyurethane toughening agent in epoxy system.

Abstract:

The new Tolonate™ X F 450 has been specifically designed by Vencorex to provide elasticity to your coatings while maintaining high hardness. It is especially suitable for fast drying formulations like aliphatic polyureas and polyaspartics, where it will overcome their brittleness and provide extended pot-life. Tolonate™ X F 450 is a very versatile polyisocyanate that can be used alone or in combination with other hardeners, to effectively fine-tune the curing time of the formulation.

 

About the Speakers:

Wang Jun, graduated from Fukui University, Master's degree in polymer synthesis. He has experience for adhesive development at Kaneka, Dow and etc. Now he is the market Development Manager of Vencorex China, responsible for promoting aliphatic isocyanate (HDI, IPDI) in the coating industry.

Maggie YU, graduated from East China University of technology with a master's degree in chemical engineering in 1997. She is currently the laboratory manager of Vencorex Shanghai R & D center. In 2008, she was transferred to Perstorp with the acquisition of Rhodia isocyanate business by Perstorp, Sweden. Before that, she worked in Shanghai Nippon, Ciba Specialty Chemicals and DSM company. It has nearly 20 years of working experience in the coating industry.

CarduraTM E10P glycidyl ester is a well-known functional monomer used in traditional high solid content solventborne acrylic polyol resins (APO) to meet VOC requirements. With stricter constrains in VOC emissions, development of waterborne APO is widely popular in the coatings industry. Silicone-based coatings excel in heat-resistance, anti-corrosion,  wear Resistance, shock resistance, and so on. Wacker SILRES® MSE 100 is a liquid silicone resin (> 99% solids) with low viscosity, has higher inorganic content. It dries due to chemical reaction with humidity, with a catalyst present. When baking, it dismisses little smoke and delivers highly heat-resistant in pigmented formulations. SILRES® MSE 100 is suitable as a binder for heat-resistant paints and coatings, topcoats for heat-resistant corrosion protection and flame-retardant paints and coatings.

Abstract:

We will present innovative solutions to elastomeric waterproofing cool exterior coatings and high performance protective coatings. By adding small amounts of hollow low density microspheres (Nouryon Expancel®) and modified colloidal silica (Nouryon Levasil®) into the formulation, a number of properties, i.e. solar reflection, elasticity, dry/wet adherence, in-can stability, dirt pick-up resistance and UV resistance of the coating, are enhanced. A small dosage of liquid polysulfide (Nouryon ThioplastTM) in protective coatings will improve corrosion resistance, flexibility, and weathering resistance. Both solutions will increase durability, lower maintenance costs, and more importantly, reduce the energy consumption.

Abstract:

Titanium dioxide pigments play an important role in protecting durable coatings on vehicles, buildings, bridges, and other structures in demanding environments.  During the development of pigments and paints, it is important to measure weathering impacts in the most representative way. This presentation will compare the difference between accelerated methods for studying weathering and outdoor exposure of several industrial paints. This presentation will also look at the impact of titanium dioxide on weather resistance as well as the correlation between the methods.

About the Speaker:

Mr. Li Feng received his bachelor's degree in polymer materials and master's degree in environmental engineering from Tongji University. He joined DuPont Titanium Business Unit in 2007, and is currently the Senior Technical Marketing Consultant for Chemours Titanium Technology with the responsibility for TiO2's application service and market development in Coatings, Laminate and Specialties.

Abstract:

Multi-colored paints with sand and inorganic silicate paints are fast growing applications that improve the fire rating of buildings and offer an alternative to real stone and stone paints. Nouryon´s thickener package features the famous brands Bermocoll®, Finnfix® and Alcogum®. Multi-colored paints with sand benefit from this package through appropriate rheology modification during formulation, manufacturing, and application of paints. Adding small amounts of Expancel® hollow low-density microspheres decreases the density and more importantly, prevents settlement and greatly improves the shelf life of the paint. Adding Nouryon Levasil® CC301 or CT24 PL colloidal silica improves the applicability and stability of sol-silicate paints, which leads to a ready-for-use one-pack eco-friendly 4th generation of silicate paints. Cekol® is a premium sustainable anionic cellulosic thickener providing significantly improved stability, flow, levelling, and color acceptance in this application.

Åsa Söderlund has more than 25 years of experience within the field of rheology additives for paints, coatings, and inks. She is a Chemical Engineer by education and through her career she has held various positions within R&D, currently as Section Manager Application Development Paints & Coatings.

Dr. Wen Bai, Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Oregon State University, works as  a Technical Application Manager for Levasil in Asia Pacific region.  She has more than 10 years of experience with colloidal silica.

Royan Xu has vast experience and technical knowledge in paint and coatings additives, with more than 15 years dedicated to the Architectural Paint and Building material industry,currently as Technical Service Lead for Paints & Coatings China.

Fred Wang is in charge of Expancel South China business as Account Manager,he was employed in some Japanese,American and European famous chemical companies with nearly 10 years of sales and marketing experience in chemical and related industries.

Dr. Harvey Xia works as R&D manager at Shanghai Pioneer Chemicals. He earned his bachelor degree at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in applied chemistry. After that, he finished his master courses at National University of Singapore, followed by his phd study at Technical University of Munich. He subsequently started his postdoctoral research in polymer chemistry at Dalian University of Technology, which was financially supported by German Research Foundation. After joining Pioneer Chemicals, he is mainly responsible for the development of novel acrylic resins.
